The Government's 2018 Whānau Ora review findings show this Māori-made policy is working. Whānau are being successfully supported to realise positive and sustainable transformation in their lives.

The Minister for Whānau Ora released the report, Tipu Matoro ki te Ao, today saying, “The review found many examples of Whānau Ora working, and people’s lives being turned around as a result of the approach.

The Review Panel engaged with hundreds of interested parties including whānau, provider partners, and Government agencies during the review process as well as taking public submissions. The overwhelming message was that Whānau Ora works.

Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency Te Pou Matakana also met with the panel on several occasions to discuss and clarify our unique commissioning for outcomes model. The review findings reinforce that community-based contracting for whānau outcomes is successful.

We support the Minister in attempts to upscale and further fund Whānau Ora. We hope to see the government increase its support of Whānau Ora and ensure its growth and extended reach.

This success is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our whānau, partner providers and all those working in Whānau Ora every day.

The intent of the Governments review was to make sure that the initiative works – the review results confirm it clearly does.
